As involved as you'd like, though the process is built for clients who'd rather hand it over. We ask a lot of questions at the start about how you live, then bring you considered decisions rather than long lists of options. Most clients find they're needed most in the first few weeks.

Can you work with my builder?

Yes. We collaborate with builders, architects, and trades throughout construction, and we're at our best when we're brought in early enough to shape decisions alongside them.

Do you order and manage the furnishings?

Yes. We handle procurement from trade vendors and coordinate receiving, inspection, and installation, so nothing arrives at your door for you to sort out.

Do you work outside Virginia?

Yes. We work regularly in Roanoke, Salem, Blacksburg, Lexington, and Smith Mountain Lake, and we welcome projects throughout Appalachia and beyond.

Do you only work on cabins and country homes?

Not at all. Maisie has deep knowledge of rural and historic properties, and a real affection for them, but the studio's approach suits any home.

What budget do projects typically start at?

We are currently welcoming consultations for projects with construction budgets from $60,000 and furnishing budgets from $45,000.

What Sets our Studio Apart

Trained & Credentialed

Maisie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from Radford University, a CIDA-accredited program, and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Elon University. The first is why we work in construction drawings: floor plans reconfigured, walls opened, cabinetry detailed to the quarter inch. The second is why a project runs the way it does.

Renderings Before Decisions

Every project moves into renderings before selections are finalized. Seeing a room at full scale catches what a floor plan can't: how the light lands, how a ceiling height reads, whether a run of cabinetry sits right. By the time we order, our clients have already seen the room they're getting.

Trade-Only Sourcing

The studio holds trade accounts with workrooms, mills, and showrooms that don't sell direct to the public. Much of what ends up in your home will come from those sources, or be custom made for yours. The rest we find at auction and through dealers, one piece at a time.

A Limited Number of Projects

We have chosen to take on a limited number of full-service projects each year. This allows us to get to know a project and our clients well, to be fully present through every design phase, and to hold the work to the high standards we've set for our studio.
